WOMP Trophys

August 16th, 2011 - Art, Bodysurf, Surf 2 Comments

Our trophys for the 1st Annual URT WOMP were no doubt a sought out item and it is easy to see why. Last years WOMP winners (Bobby Wurzelbacher *1st Place, Brenden Zinke *2nd Place, and Damon Bassett *3rd Place) still hold their trophys proudly. Just try and rip those thangs out of their hands.

This year we wanted to rethink the block of wood trophy and come up with something the winner can utilize in the water. It was hard to beat perfection, but we came up with the ultimate solution. HAND PLANES! Don’t ever let your URT trophy gather dust. Get it wet! Enjoy the sneak peak!

These hand plain trophies are done by Damon Bassett from start to finish, and have become pieces of art. It’s truly a labor of love and his hand plains reflect that. Contact Damon at dkbassett@gmail.com for any inquiries. Look for his hand plains to hit the URT shelves shortly or better yet win one of these hot chihuahuas at the URT WOMP!

HAPPY NEW YEARS!

2009 has come and gone. Now we can finally say the year like trekies… the year TWENTY-TEN. No longer do we have to rattle out the word “thousand.” I hated that, for some reason it always reminded me how broke I was.  But all in all I had a big year; got fired, travelled the world, bought a suit, and got engaged to my one-and-only.

Heres the top surf pictures of two-thousand-and-nine.

Good Riddance.

Thanks for the Support

Art.  Urt.  The two words sound alike but before last Tuesday  they hadn’t really had that much interaction.  I set out to change that with the watermen-themed art show I told you guys about earlier.  The range of artwork was impressive; abstract seascapes with crayon, black and whtie photography, paintings done on wood, and color photography of large ships.  There were live artists too, mostly abstract painters, and plenty of Urt supporters who came out for the night in their gear.

Overall, the night was a success; big turnout, great art and above all- a chance to appreciate the water.
Urt would like to extend a warm thanks to all the artists who participated, the guests for attending and Bar Basic for hosting the event.

URT Art Show

This Tuesday, April 28th, URT invites you to Downtown San Diego’s Bar Basic (+21), for the art show Watermen. In the program, URT showcases local talent that has dedicated thier art to the relationship between the ocean and man. From sailors to sea monsters, Watermen will include a variety of sea-inspired designs. In addition URT will be making its grand entrance into the public eye.
In a section of the show URT will expose the critical relationship between the ocean’s tides and how man, Waterman if you will, use them. URT t-shirts will also be available for purchase at the show. Please show your support by taking time on that Tuesday to come down and grab a drink and find out how these artists/Watermen record the reactions of their personalitites to the underwater world they live in.
